For my first “Behind The Brand” blog article, I would like to introduce you to Becky Smith, the incredibly talented lady behind Foxglove and Black. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Becky towards the end of 2020 on her galaxy inspired wedding shoot and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for both her and her business.
Tell us more about you. What do you enjoy doing? Do you have any interesting or unusual facts about yourself?
I love travelling and visiting anywhere that I haven’t been before, my bucket list of places I want to go is huuuuuuge! I was nicknamed Judith Charmers in my last role because of this. I love being around people and my friends, family and hubster mean everything to me. I love fancy dress, including the fact that my mates dressed me up a giant banana for my hen do. This is due to me being known for always having a daily emergency banana on me in case I get hungry haha!
How did your business start?
I started my business over lockdown but began studying with the Wedding Academy the year before. I fell in love with wedding styling and floral design whilst planning our own wedding back in 2019. I’d been working in graphic design since leaving university and, whilst I loved working in a creative industry, I always longed to work more with people. Finding the wedding industry just made all the pieces fit together. It was exactly what I’d been looking for.
Of all the products your business has to offer, which is your favourite and why?
That’s really a tough one! I love styling as I love bringing many different elements together to create a unique wedding design. There is no limit but your imagination! However, I also love flowers to the point I am obsessed. If I’m not making a floral arrangement then I’m looking at what I can do next and there are just so many gorgeous flowers available!
If you were getting married in a few months, what would your wedding look like?
I only got married in 2019 but if I could do it again (renewing vows maybe!) I’d go for something dark and gothic. I love all the dark bouquets and ombre wedding dresses are just sooo beautiful!!
What makes you different to other businesses in your market?
I like to think that I’m going to be helping couples stamp their personality into their wedding styling. There are a lot of wedding decor styling businesses out there but there aren’t many that are focused on weddings that want to do away with tradition. With my background in graphic design, I have more of a design led approach that also makes me look at every detail of a couple’s dream day. I also offer stationery and floral design, which I feel makes it easier for couples as they have less suppliers to deal with and they can relax with the knowledge that everything will fit visually well together.
What do you feel is your biggest achievement to date either personally or in your business?
I haven’t been going long but my biggest achievement in my business is my first styled shoot being published in Unconventional Wedding blog. I really enjoyed taking my Galaxy shoot from concept and planning, styling and designing the stationery and florals and seeing it all come together. I’m so chuffed with the end result!
What can we expect from your business in the future?
I’ve got a lot of styled shoots ideas that I can’t wait to be working on soon. I have a modern 1920s inspired shoot ready to go as soon as lockdown and restrictions allow it! My Etsy store, website and packages will also be launched soon and I can’t wait to be working with some lovely couples helping style their dream wedding!
